  •   The Fiesta Bowl is an American College Football played annually at University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale Arizona. Now it is called a BattleFrog Fiesta Bowl due to its sponsorship since January 2016.
  • The originating of the Fiesta Bowl comes from the Western Athletic Conference. Defeat that its champions in 1968 and '69 were not invited to any bowl and 1970 champion Arizona State played in the Peach Bowl, conference supporters created the Fiesta Bowl, which initially guaranteed an invite for its champion.
  • The first Fiesta Bowl championship was held in 1971 & won by Arizona State.
  • In 1998 it has become a part of Bowl Championship series & since 2010 it is a part of College football playoff...

No. 9 Oklahoma State pulled off the biggest comeback in school history, storming back from a 21-point deficit to defeat No. 5 Notre Dame 37-35 in the Fiesta Bowl on New Year's Day.

The Fighting Irish came out blazing on offense against Oklahoma State's highly-ranked defense with quarterback Jack Coan rolling up 342 yards and four touchdowns in the first half. Notre Dame built up a 28-7 with just over a minute left in the second quarter, but a quick Oklahoma State score before halftime and an impressive drive to start the third quarter quickly cut the lead to 28-21.

The 50th Anniversary of the Fiesta Bowl champions was indeed historic. In a matchup that was the first-ever between No. 25 Oregon and No. 10 Iowa State, the Cyclones hit the Fiesta Bowl field for the first time in school history after their most successful regular season ever.

The first time in Fiesta Bowl history that both starting quarterbacks from Iowa Stat vs Oregon were Arizona natives.


The Cyclones made the most of playing in the biggest game in program history in 2021 Fiesta Bowl, their first-ever New Year's Six Bowl, defeating the Ducks 34-17 behind solid play on both sides of the ball.

  1. Why do you say Penn State has the most victories with 6? PSU has 7 Fiesta bowl victories and are 7-0. Here's the list from 1st to 7th game/victory.#1 1977 defeated Arizona State 42-30,#2 1980 defeated Ohio State 31-19,#3 1982 defeated USC 26-10,#4 1987 defeated #1 Miami 14-10 for Natl Championship,#5 1992 defeated Tennessee 42-17,#6 1997 defeated Texas 38-15 and #7 Fiesta Bowl victory was in 2017 defeated Washington 35-28. That makes 7 unless I'm missing a forfeit after the fact or something like that.
